Maggie May - Our Good Old Girl

By Amber Burckhalter, Founder & Owner, K-9 Coach and Bed & Bark

Maggie is getting old - 14 years old, to be exact. I think this makes her close to 100 years old in doggie years! She is losing her sight and hearing and sometimes her footing. She wants to sleep all day and the other night she fell down again, losing her way in the dark on the stairs...

Nutrition & Behavior

By Amber Burckhalter, Founder & Owner, K-9 Coach and Bed & Bark

You may have noticed we have begun carrying a few lines of dog food and treats here at K-9 Coach’s Bed and Bark. Pet Chef and Verus are wonderful foods, meeting all of your dog’s dietary needs and helping build strong muscles and bones. However, quality dog food has more than these types of effects on your dog. It can have a big effect on your dog’s behavior and training. “What? Training?”, you say. YES, training.

Safety & Play

By Amber Burckhalter, Founder & Owner, K-9 Coach and Bed & Bark

Many of you have noticed that we recently started a new program that requires the purchase of a safety collar. This is a result of a recent incident I saw at a dog park where two dogs became entangled, began fighting and both wound up at the vet with serious injuries. The collars recently purchased by K-9 Coach are special collars that break free should a dog become hung up in any way. You might wonder how a dog can become hung up playing in a yard, but it is actually one of the most common causes of canine demise. Dogs collars get caught together, often on canine teeth, and then the dogs panic. They roll and spin, trying to break free and very quickly harm each other and anyone trying to help them.

The Love of a Dog

By Joseph Mazella

The following was written by Joseph Mazella in 2004. I read it some time ago and saved it. I'm glad to share it with you here...

There is a joyous ringing in my house these days. It comes from a bouncing, jumping, tail wagging, face licking bundle of happiness with a jingle bell on its collar. It comes from a rapidly growing, four-legged shadow that follows my daughter everywhere. It comes from an innocent faced, brown eyed ball of energy that has made itself at home in our house and in our hearts.

Dog Food: How Important is it Really

By Amber Burckhalter, Founder & Owner, K-9 Coach - Bed & Bark

Many of my clients have heard the recent news about the illness and death caused by poisons in dog and cat food shipped in to our country. You are also aware of the recent trend toward US made products as well as higher nutritional value and environmental impact of all products produced for dogs and cats. The question many ask is: how important is what your dog eats, really?
